Seniors I Have This Handyman Business & I Want Seniors To Know About It, What Is The Best Way To Do This?
I am on vacation now but when I get back home to MD I want to contact people who live in over 55 communities…..We actually have a friend we visited in one & we put our card on the community bulleten board there…..about a week later a lady called & mentioned we must know someone in the building & it ended up she knows our friend…so that worked out well….the lady we worked for was a widow who had put off doing many things since her husband wasn’t there to do the work…so my husband hung sconces & fixed the toilet, etc…..she was so thrilled to get this work done…..a friend of hers came over & asked for our cards…then that friend called before we left……So what is the best way for us to let everyone know that we do this work….we are sure people want what we do but we don’t want to be intrusive…we also don’t want to be so passive that we don’t get to do all the work we could be doing….thank you so much for your answer.

Sometime, seniors never get that work done, so their children or heirs have to, after their deaths. Find a way to get to the survivors, after the funeral, who now have to deal with their folks’ old house and renovate it. Maybe funeral homes, churches, etc.
I would stop by with information in Senior Centers, State, City, and County Depts for the Aging, write a letter to AARP, and post it on the web. If you know some seniors and they can recommend other seniors, that could help, as well as visiting doctors offices specializing in geriatric medicine. Also houses for seniors would be a good place, They might let you post the information on their Bulletin Boards. An incentive might be to charge Seniors 5-10% less, that’s if you could handle that financially. It would draw business.
Most senior living centers have a news letter that accept advertising. Contact them and pay for a ad or two. Your card on the senior center’s bullitin board will do well also. Use Craigslist. Word of mouth is the best way in these types of things…slow to start, but once it gets going, you will have more work than you can handle. Good luck
Always leave a few cards with each client..he/she can give them to friends. !
That is a good job. Since some people are in fear of letting strangers into their homes and of being ripped off, I suggest you get written permission from those that were pleased with your services to advertise for you also by posting their statements in all your ads. Check with your BB agency. See if your church or pastor will endorse you also. Good references will help.
Already you have suggestions that will serve you well. You might also visit in hardware stores and with grocers and pharmacist. Advise people that you are available to assemble their purchases if they are in need of someone to do that task. Be cautious with children’s swing sets. They can consume a whole day of your time and more. DO YOU HAUL HAY ?
Post colorful flyers on bulletin boards at health centers or any facilities that you know seniors will be. Make certain that you have very little wording, but have the print very large so seniors can read it. Good Luck & I wish you much success.
Word of mouth is the cheapest and best way to advertise, and looks like you’re doing that already. Keep up the good work and charge fair prices and soon you will have more work than you’ll be able to keep up with.
Drop by the Senior Ctrs in those areas too.
Many seniors go to Church. Often churches have flayers that they have mailed out monthly. This may be a good way to reach seniors. Advertise that you give senior discounts or even specialize in caring for the senior with handyman work that needs to be done. Perhaps a barter with the Church / Synagogue can be arranged. Or offer to help someone who is a parishiner indesperate need for a ad or even a reference. A priest, rabbi or minister as a reference is pretty convincing.
I had a housecleaning business and posted flyers everywhere I could think of. Perhaps, pharmacies in your area (usually the small mom& pop ones, may allow it).
You know, I might even leave a couple cards around the Depends and Ensure section of supermarkets. So, the manager finds it and throw it out but you never know, one person picks it up and it leads to five more.
After each service, ask the customer if they are happy, etc. and willing to be used as a reference. Perhaps offer an incentive like $5.00 off. This will be in the beginning.
Eventually, word of mouth is what carries the most weight. Good luck.
Look for senior citizen buildings in your area. Then, contact them and explain this, the administration will usually be helpful with things like this especially for older ppl who need help at low prices. Other than this, you can post something right near by, such as on a tree post, one of those things where on the bottom of the add you have small pieces of paper with the number that they can take if interested. If you put this in a public place, you shouldn’t have a problem.
